Our Pastors

Elder William M. Hines Sr., the eldest son of the late Pastor Carl E. Hines, Jr. and Mother Thewantha B. Hines, was born in Reading, Pennsylvania where he graduated from Reading Senior High School.  He attended Penn State University majoring in Business Administration.  Later, he continued his education at Penn Foster College where he completed their Electrician Diploma Program.

 Elder Hines was saved at Shiloh Church of God in Christ, under the pastorate of his father, where he later answered his call to the ministry.  For many years, he assisted his father at Shiloh by serving as a Youth Sunday School teacher, Minister of Music and vice president of the Men’s Fellowship.   He worked faithfully in the Audio/Video Ministry at Shiloh as well.

He was ordained by the late Bishop O.T. Jones, Jr. – Prelate of the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ, Inc. where he continues to serve under the leadership of Bishop Guy L. Glimp.  He currently serves on Bishop Glimp’s staff as Media Ministry Coordinator; however he worked in the State Jurisdiction in the Audio/Video Ministry for many years prior to this appointment. 

He is an anointed and accomplished singer, musician, and songwriter of gospel music who strongly believes that “there is a message in the song”.  Writing and producing music is one of his favorite pastimes. He has recorded, published, and distributed three of his album projects.  Teaching music lessons weekly is another one of his favorite pastimes. His greatest desire is to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord!  Psalm 119:105 — “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” – is his favorite scripture.

Elder Hines is the founding pastor of C.E. Hines Memorial Christian Fellowship Church of God in Christ now known as Upon This Rock Ministries Church of God in Christ.  His goal as pastor is to do all he can to let his light shine and to help and encourage others to let their lights shine in the world as well.  He wants it to be known that we are to be helpers of one another.  He is very passionate about building family union and unity and strives to instill in all the members that they should be witnesses of Jesus Christ, committed to glorifying God and working on building strong families based on biblical principles.

He has been married to the lovely Evangelist Denise R. Hines for 45 years and they are blessed to be the proud parents of four children and 18 grandchildren.  

Elder Robert Taylor surrendered his will to the Lord and received and accepted his calling from God in 2009. After serving as a minister for three years under the tutelage of Pastor William Hines, Bishop Benjamin J. Ravenel laid hands upon him and ordained him an Elder in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Church of God in Christ Jurisdiction, where he continues to serve under the leadership of Bishop Guy Glimp. That same year, Elder Taylor was installed as the Altoona District’s Superintendent of the Sunday School Department. He loves the Word of God and is a believer and witness of the transformational power that one is blessed with when applying the Word to one’s life. Elder Taylor is a Certified Recovery Specialist and works as a Counselor in a local Drug and Alcohol treatment center. He has been married to Evangelist Nicole Taylor for 25 years.
